Everyone seems to love brunch, so why don’t we learn more about it?

Definition: Brunch: a meal in between lunch and dinner. A simple definition, yet brunch means much more to members of modern society.

History: The meal of brunch originated back in the early 1900s in England, gaining popularity in the United States around the 1930s. The term itself was coined by Guy Beringer, an English Author, who proposed “new meal, served around noon, that starts with tea or coffee, marmalade and other breakfast fixtures before moving along to the heavier fare”.

Modern Meaning: What originated as a simple, relaxing meal for the late riser quickly took the world by storm. Nowadays, brunch is one of the most popular activities for socialization. A perfect way to catch up with loved ones while also snapping a series of photos for social media. Modern brunch includes a spread of delectable dishes, but more importantly alcohol. Many brunch hot spots offer bottomless cocktails like bloody marys or mimosas. This has turned the simple meal of brunch into an all day adventure.

Popular Dishes: Any food can be classified as brunch these days, but here are a few dishes you can pretty much guarantee seeing on any brunch menu:

Powdered french toast and strawberries

French Toast: Thick bread battered, grilled, and topped with butter and syrup. Topped with berries, bananas, chocolate sauce, caramel, or whipped cream. The options are endless and sure to satisfy a sweet tooth.

Benedict eggs on english muffin

Eggs Benedict: If french toast is the sweet brunch staple, eggs benedict is the salty one. This classic dish is an english muffin topped with canadian bacon, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce.

Shakshuka and bread

Shakshuka: Eggs poached in a spicy tomato sauce with other vegetables. Ok, this one may not be on every brunch menu you come across. However, it is perfect for an adventurous eater who wants to try something a little more unique than the two dishes above.

Pair either dish with some crispy home fries, coffee (or a cocktail), and you’ve got yourself the perfect brunch experience. If you want to have a scrumptious brunch from home with any of these dishes, Rockoly can provide you with everything you need.
