Landing pages

The group URL is what the ad points at. It sends each visitor to one of the pages below — evenly to begin with; change the shares once it is saved. Each page must already exist on the site, and a URL that already means something (a page, or a redirect) cannot be a group.

• Share — how new visitors are divided. Each one is drawn at random by these shares and then kept on their page for 30 days. A page at 0%, or retired, gets nobody new, and the people it had are drawn again on their next click.
• Visitors — people the group URL sent to this page, counted once, on the day they were first sent. Bots, link scanners and anyone signed in to this admin are never counted.
• Returning visits — later clicks through the group URL by people already placed. They see the same page again and are not counted as new visitors.
• Conversions — leads sent by those visitors from any page of the site, one per person, with junk and the office’s own test leads taken out. Each is counted against the day its visitor was first sent, so a page is judged by the people it was shown to.
• Conv. rate — conversions divided by visitors.
• Avg time on page — seconds the page was on screen and in use, per view. The clock stops after a minute with no scrolling, typing or tapping, and one view never adds more than 30 minutes.
• vs A — the chance this page’s conversion rate is really higher than A’s, from the visitors and conversions so far. It says Likely better at 95% or more and Likely worse at 5% or less, and only once both pages have at least 100 visitors and 5 conversions; before that it says Too early to call.
• All traffic to this page — everybody who opened the page by any route: the group URL, ads that still point straight at the page, search, and preprod (the site’s page counters are shared between the two environments). It is the figure the dashboard shows for the page, not part of the test.
• Automated requests — bots and link scanners that asked for the group URL. They are sent a page exactly as a person would be, because showing crawlers something different breaks Google’s rules, but they are not counted.
