FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Resident Events FAQs

What kinds of events do you run for residents?

Nine formats sit on this page, and between them they cover very different energy levels — the resident who turns out for a wine tasting is often not the one who turns out for arts and crafts:

  • Hands-on cooking workshops: Cavatelli with Pesto and Thai Summer Rolls run 120 minutes, Japanese Sushi 60 to 120.
  • Food and drink socials, 60 to 120 minutes: Cocktail Hour, Wine Tasting and a Charcuterie Board session.
  • Short-format fun, 60 minutes: Murder Mystery, Wellness, and Arts and Crafts.

Subscriptions also include unlimited virtual magic shows, trivia nights, escape rooms and icebreakers. A chef or host runs the session and brings the structure; you supply the room and the residents.

How do the subscriptions work, and what do they include?

You pick a monthly level based on how many residents you expect to reach, and a dedicated planner books against it all year. Four levels:

  • $500 a month — unlimited virtual murder mystery, magic shows, trivia, escape rooms, wellness, arts and crafts and icebreakers, plus 10% off any cooking, happy hour or wine tasting event you add.
  • $2,000 a month — everything above, plus one cooking event a month with ingredients delivered, in person or virtually, for up to 20 residents, and 20% off each additional resident past 20.
  • $5,000 a month — everything above, plus one cooking, happy hour or wine tasting workshop a month for up to 50 residents, and 30% off each additional resident past 50.
  • Enterprise — built for large complexes and property management groups running several properties, scoped to what you actually need.

Unused events on the $2,000 and $5,000 levels roll over and can be combined, so a slow month becomes a bigger event later rather than budget you lost.

What's the most surprising thing residents pick up in these sessions?

Usually the rice paper. The wrappers for Thai summer rolls are made by ladling a thin rice-and-water batter onto cloth stretched over a pot of boiling water, lifting off the sheet the moment it sets, and laying it on a woven bamboo rack to dry in the sun. That crosshatch pattern pressed into every wrapper in the packet is not a texture somebody designed — it is the imprint of the mat. Nobody looks at a packet the same way afterwards.

It is also why Thai Summer Rolls runs the full 120 minutes on this page rather than an hour. Residents soften and roll every one by hand, at their own speed, with plenty of failed first attempts, and it is comfortably the session that gets photographed most.

How do we get residents to actually turn up?

Cadence and format do most of the work. Every subscription level includes unlimited virtual events, so you can run something every week or two instead of one big night a quarter, and residents show up for things that are already part of the rhythm. Short formats help: a 60-minute murder mystery, wellness session or craft hour is an easier yes than a two-hour commitment. And when turnout is strong, the pricing protects you — the $2,000 level covers 20 residents with 20% off everyone past that, the $5,000 level covers 50 with 30% off past that. After each event you can give feedback through Rockoly's survey tools, and your account manager uses it to shape the next one.

Are events in person or virtual, and which cities do you cover in person?

Both, and you can mix them month to month. Virtual events run over Zoom, which suits residents who travel, work odd hours, or would rather not walk across the property on a February evening. In-person events come to you: the community clubhouse, the pool area or wherever your residents already gather, with the chef, the ingredients and the setup brought in. In-person coverage runs through the Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, Seattle, Southern California and Washington DC. Rockoly has been running resident events since 2022 for communities across Orange County, New York and Boston, and has delivered hundreds of virtual and in-person events, so a residential building is familiar territory.

What if we need to cancel or move an event?

Move it — that's what the rollover is there for. Cancel 21 or more days out and you are refunded what you paid less any nonrecoverable costs already committed; 8 to 20 days out you choose between a 50% refund and a 100% Rockoly credit; inside 8 days payments are nonrefundable, though one complimentary reschedule is yours if you ask 14+ days ahead. On the $2,000 and $5,000 levels an event you don't use rolls over and can be combined with a later one, so a quiet August turns into a bigger September. Every event also carries the Love Your Event Guarantee: if your Rockoly event doesn't live up to expectations, we'll make it right.

We manage several properties. Can one plan cover all of them?

That's what the Enterprise level is for — it's built for large complexes and property management groups running several properties, and it's scoped to what you actually need rather than sold as a fixed bundle. The levels are priced against how many residents you expect to reach rather than how many buildings you have, so a handful of small properties and one large complex can sit under the same plan.

Two things make a portfolio easier than it sounds. Unlimited virtual events come with every level, so a trivia night, a magic show or a murder mystery can run at each property instead of being rationed between them. And in-person coverage already reaches the Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, Seattle, Southern California and Washington DC, so buildings in those markets can have a chef in the clubhouse while the rest run virtually. Give your account manager the community sizes and the cities you manage, and the plan gets built around the mix rather than around your biggest building.

What's the easiest way to try this before committing?

Take the free chocolate tasting. There's a limited trial running for a complimentary chocolate tasting for you and five of your staff, which is a low-risk way to watch a Rockoly host handle a room before you put one in front of residents. Then send the inquiry form on this page with your community size and the cities you manage, and an account manager comes back with a recommended level and a first calendar. You can also call (617) 939-9732 or email events@rockoly.com. Cooking events want about three weeks of lead time and happy hours about four, so pencil in holiday dates early.
