Description

March is all about energy, brackets, and buzzer beaters and at Rockoly, we bring that same excitement into the kitchen.

Process and timeline

From the moment you book to the moment the chef says hello.

  1. When you book

    Hold your date

A $250 deposit reserves the date and comes off the total in full. Dates 2 weeks out book instantly; sooner than that, ask and we can often expedite.

  2. Within a day

Your event planner gets in touch

Every event gets a dedicated planner, at no cost. They shape it around your team — the menu, the timings, dietary needs, and the parts that make it yours.

    • Free customization of the menu and the run of show
    • Free engagement games to open or close the session
    • Extra cheers, toasts and shout-outs for birthdays, wins and farewells
    • Dietary adjustments for anyone who needs them
  3. A week before

    Your shopping list arrives

Suggestions rather than a fixed list, so everyone can work with what is already in their kitchen. Bring your own produce, jars and whatever else you fancy putting up.

  4. Event day

Everyone joins and the chef takes it from there

One link, no software to install. Your planner is on hand in the background if anything needs sorting mid-event.

How to join

Default video platform

Zoom

  • Your event planner sends the Zoom link with your confirmation, and again the day before.
  • Prefer Microsoft Teams or Google Meet? Say so when you book and your host will run it there instead.
  • No account or download needed for guests — the link opens in a browser.

Things you'll need

Everything else is in the box we ship to each guest.

To join

  • A laptop or tablet with a camera
  • A stable internet connection
  • Somewhere to prop the screen where you cook

Kitchen equipment

  • A chopping board and a sharp knife
  • Mixing bowls — large and small
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • A large pan or skillet
  • A stove, and an oven if your chef calls for it

Also handy

  • Salt, pepper and cooking oil
  • A kitchen towel
  • Somewhere clear to work
  • An appetite

Bring your own

Nothing ships — you bring the ingredients

Shopping list
Sent ahead of the session, with suggestions rather than a fixed list — the point is to use what you already have.
Equipment
Whatever you cook with at home. Nothing specialised is needed.
Lead time
Short, and that is the advantage: with nothing to ship, this one can still make a date the others cannot.
Instant booking
Available for events at least 2 weeks out. Sooner than that, ask us — we can often expedite.

The bracket format is the whole idea — teams bake against each other and get knocked out in rounds, which sounds gimmicky and turns out to be exactly what makes people care. Ours got competitive faster than anyone expected. It's a good fit for March if your company already has a basketball thing running, and it works just as well if nobody follows it at all, because the tournament structure carries itself.

The baking is real rather than a backdrop to the game — the judging criteria include taste as well as looks, so you can't win on decoration alone. That kept it honest. Our team lost in the second round to a much better cake and we have not entirely let it go.

Easy to organize and the tournament structure does the work of keeping thirty people engaged, which is usually the hardest part of a large session. As organizer I'd say book a slightly longer slot than you think — the judging rounds add time and rushing them takes the fun out.

Chef Emily brought real energy to the competitive rounds without it tipping into pressure, which is a fine line when people are being eliminated. She commentated on the bakes as they came in, which was funnier than it sounds and gave the whole thing the feel of an actual tournament rather than a class with a scoreboard bolted on.
