Description

Smashing cucumbers isn’t just fun, it enhances their texture and ability to soak up bold flavors. This refreshing Chinese-inspired salad is tossed with garlic, sesame, and a hint of spice, making it a crisp, cooling complement to rich or spicy dishes. Enjoy with a glass of champagne or add a Sake tasting.

Process and timeline

From the moment you book to the moment the chef says hello.

  1. When you book

    Hold your date

A $250 deposit reserves the date and comes off the total in full. Dates 2 weeks out book instantly; sooner than that, ask and we can often expedite.

  2. Within a day

Your event planner gets in touch

Every event gets a dedicated planner, at no cost. They shape it around your team — the menu, the timings, dietary needs, and the parts that make it yours.

    • Free customization of the menu and the run of show
    • Free engagement games to open or close the session
    • Extra cheers, toasts and shout-outs for birthdays, wins and farewells
    • Dietary adjustments for anyone who needs them
  3. As soon as you like

    Collect guest addresses

We send every guest a short form to fill in themselves, so you never chase anyone for a home address. Prefer to handle it yourself? Send us the list instead.

  4. 14 days before

    Addresses in

That is the deadline for free standard shipping anywhere in the US. International delivery is available to most countries at additional cost, and those addresses are due earlier.

  5. The day before or the day of

    Fresh ingredients arrive

Not a box packed a week ago: each guest's ingredients are bought fresh at a local store — Whole Foods first choice, or the best grocer near them — and delivered to their door, so what they cook with is fresh on the day.

  6. Event day

Everyone joins and the chef takes it from there

One link, no software to install. Your planner is on hand in the background if anything needs sorting mid-event.

Agenda / Run of show

A breakdown of how the 60 min runs.

  1. 0:00 – 0:05

    Welcome & introduction

Meet your chef and host, run through the ingredients and equipment, and say hello to the team.

  2. 0:05 – 0:13

    Mise en place

Prep and portion everything before the cooking starts — the step that makes the rest calm.

  3. 0:13 – 0:36

    Cook together

The chef leads the dish step by step, at a pace the whole group can follow, with tips as you go.

  4. 0:36 – 0:44

    Team break

While something rests or bakes, the host runs a short icebreaker or trivia round.

  5. 0:44 – 0:52

    Finish & plate

Bring it together, plate it up and learn how a chef would serve it.

  6. 0:52 – 1:00

    Taste, group photo & Q&A

Eat what you made, take the team photo, and ask the chef anything.

What guests said about this experience

Verified guest

Smashing rather than slicing is the entire idea and it does something a knife can't — the ragged torn edges hold dressing where a clean cut surface sheds it, and the broken structure lets the salt draw water out faster. Chef Quan explained why rather than just saying to hit it with the flat of a blade. Salting and draining before dressing is the other half; skip it and you have a puddle within ten minutes.

Dakota

Genuinely good one to do with children, because the main activity is hitting vegetables with a heavy object and that is an easy sell to anyone under twelve. Nothing sharp is strictly needed and there's no heat at all. Ours ate cucumber voluntarily, which had not previously been achieved in our house.

Drew

Verified guest

I'd never made anything like this and had assumed a cucumber salad was inherently boring. The dressing is where it lives — garlic, sesame, black vinegar and a bit of chilli — and the balance was explained as a ratio rather than a list, so I've made it several times since with what I had. It takes about ten minutes.

A whole session built around one very simple side dish sounds thin and works because the technique behind it is genuinely counterintuitive — you're taught why a physical process changes how an ingredient behaves, which is a more interesting lesson than another recipe. It's also the shortest thing we've booked and one of the few people have actually repeated.
